You'll find OS X about 100 times more stable than OS 9.

That's about how many lock-ups I've had in 4 years but I'm on a PPC G5, not a new Imac..

On OS 9, rebuilding the desktop solved many mystery problems. The OS X equivalent is repairing the disk permissions with the Disk Utility Application.
